"Smelling the Humanities" was a resounding success, as were the lovely treats from Split Bakehouse for our plant-based reception.

Full detailed call for papers. Food Studies Pedagogies and the Global Hispanophone A Round Table Food Studies is an interdisciplinary field incorporating approaches from cultural studies, history, anthropology, geography, linguistics, and gender and environmental studies, among other fields. The issues that Food Studies explores are particularly relevant to the Global Hispanophone world where cultural appropriation, the circulation of material goods, food’s symbolic meanings and their deployment in nationalist and colonialist discourses, cultural exchanges, and hegemonies remain persistent. Incorporating the pedagogies of Food Studies into language, literature, cultural studies, history, and visual studies classes offers rich opportunities for student learning and critical thinking. We invite proposals for brief presentations (3-5 minutes) that document ideas, course design, or class activities that engage Food Studies methods to support critical thinking in the classroom and which will inspire a robust and informative discussion among round table participants and audience members. Please submit your 200 word abstract and a one-paragraph statement reflecting your interest in or experience with Food Studies pedagogies by Friday, March 14th.
