November shadows. Oil on fine canvas.

My series of documenting the light as it changes in my environment throughout the year. This is what happens around 8ish in my kitchen in November on a sunny morning.
(Paint still wet but I think it's finished)

An alla prima self portrait selfie portrait. I wanted to see what I could paint quickly rather than my usual slower layers of paint. I'm very satisfied with the fabric and flowers. Quick and definite marks. Stropy face though 😂

They are selling peonies in M & S and I am in two minds about this breach of the peony season law!!!!
Here's my painting of some from the summer because why not and because I like the wait for the summer. I like the specialness of them being there for a season. But I was also a little bit tempted!!

To show size and a better colour representation of that yellow as it suddenly looks so bright in the original photo.

One of my favourite commissions of recent times. I love painting my selfies so it was such a brilliant challenge to be given this more retro selfie to paint.

A portrait painting is something that can be passed down through generations. They don't have to be huge or imposing. I love doing smaller intimate commissions like this which are more affordable but just as beautiful. I have space coming up in November. Website is best place to contact me!

Mathew. Oil on linen.
This is still my favourite composition. At first I was really scared of painting the background black and I didn't know how to balance the two halves of the painting - but I decided to go for it and see what happened.

Really happy with how this commission turned out. Loved the challenge of painting the foamy sea.

Another one from a few years ago. It was hard to photograph in my sunny studio, its a pretty big painting. What I loved about it was the mirroring of their poses & also how their individuality shines through. I could see all of their personalities in the photo I was given. Was a joy to paint.

There's a sweet spot when a painting starts when I'm uncertain if I should stop and leave in its state of unfinishedness or carry on. This is an old one, I carried on and love how it ended but this to me was a moment where I wanted to stop!!

Blocking in a new shadow self portrait. Paint still very wet here. Looking forward to going back in with layers of colour to create the depth of light in the shadow areas

It's always really special to be commissioned to paint a portrait that will hang in space where it will be seen for hopefully generations to come. I finished this last year of the retiring headmaster Martin Priestley of The Leys school. Grateful to finally be able to share it!
Oil on linen.
