I've been thinking about Hepokoski lately (for a very different reason). His Cambridge handbook was my introduction to Sibelius, though I won't remember any of what you're describing.

Short answer: Hamelin / Andsnes is my preferred listen. Reasons why come and go—at some points I liked their articulations better than the other, at others I found myself enjoying the instruments/recording more. More cohesive? “Better”?
