Alfred Harth’s Just Music — ‘Just Music’
Step two on my #ecmodyssey. And the second ECM album ever. This is actually a German original in nice shape, and it wasn’t expensive. You can tell it’s legit because there’s annoying plastic peeling off the cover.

Mal Waldron — ‘Free at Last’
Gonna try listening to every ECM LP I own in chronological order. Please join me on my #ecmodyssey and feel free to launch one of your own. This is the first ECM release. Obviously, it is the recent extended reissue, not an original.

Peter Hammill — ‘Out of Water’
Was lying when I claimed to have listened to all the Japan purchases. Was saving this one to listen to in the correct chronological slot in my trawl through all my Hammill albums.

Steve Kuhn — ‘Ecstasy’
Been looking for a copy of this one for a while now.

False Aralia — ‘Ira.gram’
Surely the new project from the shadowy figure behind Topdown Dialectic. In any case, the most exciting new electronic music project I’ve heard since Topdown. This isn’t my fave EP in the series, it’s just the only one I’ve managed to get on vinyl.

Roberto Cacciapaglia Ensemble — ‘Transharmonica’
Saw this for 10 bucks at a record fair and took a punt. Very different from the Cacciapaglia heads may know. Almost a holy minimalism vibe. Perfect rainy morning music, so far.

Peter Hammill — ‘In a Foreign Town’
Continuing my dutiful trawl through all the Hammill LPs I own. As with other albums from this era, it’s better than I remembered. Sounds like he had access to a Fairlight or similar when he made this.

My Bloody Valentine — ‘Strawberry Wine’
Maybe just one more MBV EP before I switch back to 33.

My Bloody Valentine — ‘Tremolo’
This the only one of MBV’s Creation EPs that I bought the day it came out. Consequently, it has more wear and tear than the others. But it still sounds phenomenal.

My Bloody Valentine — ‘Glider’
Forget your audiophile pressing of ‘Rumours’, this is the single best sounding record in my entire collection.

My Bloody Valentine — ‘Feed Me with Your Kiss’
Now that I’ve got the 45 setting perfectly calibrated, might as well play a bunch of these. Normally listen to MBV on a Bluetooth speaker to make chores tolerable. Hearing these 12”s on proper speakers again is truly next level.

My Bloody Valentine — ‘You Made Me Realise’
The 33 and 45 settings on my record player don’t exactly align. If I want to play a 45 at exactly the right speed, I have to tweak the pitch. Normally don’t bother but the difference is glaring with MBV. Tweaked and sounding incredible.

Rafael Toral — ‘Travelling Light’
Think this might be album of the year two years in a row for Toral. Gorgeous experimental interpretations of old jazz standards.

Peter Hammill — ‘And Close as This’
Still working my way through the Hammill albums. You have to hear them all to truly understand his genius. And, to be fair, this one is better than I remembered, so far.

Pere Ubu — ‘Dub Housing’
Another one where I broke the records-you-see-all-the-time-but-you-never-buy-them-because-you-see-them-all-the-time cycle.

The second Tindersticks album. This is the Plain Records reissue, which is presumably considered to be garbage. But it sounds fine to my unrefined ears.

Peter Hammill — ‘Skin’
Still working my way through all the Hammill albums I own, in chronological order. This isn’t one of my favourites, tbh. But apparently some people particularly like it.

Keith LeBlanc — ‘Major Malfunction’
This seems to be a somewhat lesser-known On-U Sound adjacent album. But, evidently, a bunch of people who went on to be famous producers got into sampling specifically because of it.

Van Der Graaf Generator — ‘Recorded Live in Concert at Metropolis Studios, London’
This one rocks. Immediately my fave 21st-century VDGG thing.
