Apparently what it takes for my neck to not hurt is 6 glasses of wine over 5 courses and Miguel telling us about some food we're having that is way too good. Thank you Gramercy Tavern for a night so good I didn't take pics other than these

Our 20th anniversary is in the books. Now I sleep.

🎶Shouldn't have to say it all again
The universe is hostile, so impersonal
Devour to survive, so it is, so it's always been

We all feed on tragedy
It's like blood to a vampire
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies

Much better you than I.🎵

Calendars, Emperors, Salads, Shakespeare, group activities. Whatever the reason is? I just love this day so much.

The Caesar salad, interestingly, was not named for Julius. It was named for Caesar Cardini who created it at his Tijuana restaurant, Caesar's, in 1924.
March 15, 2025 at 11:03 PM
Caesar's adopted son, Octavius, had been named his sole heir. Octavius heard of his father's death and returned to Rome, becoming Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus, or Octavian. Octavian would go on to become Emperor Augustus in 27 BCE.

Historians, unfortunately, tell us that despite their intentions his death was the beginning of the Roman Empire period, and the death of the Roman Republic.
March 15, 2025 at 10:40 PM
Whatever he said, his death was a betrayal undertaken by a group of senators to serve the greater good.
March 15, 2025 at 10:38 PM
The last words of Julius Caesar are disputed, with some saying he said nothing, others saying he said, in Latin, "You too, my son?" The most famous of them is, of course, from Shakespeare who claims them to be, "Et tu, Brute?" meaning "And you, Brutus?"
March 15, 2025 at 10:34 PM
The assasination of Caesar was done by members of the senate. People he knew and was even friendly with.
March 15, 2025 at 10:30 PM
Shakespeare took his turn with this in "The Tragedy of Julius Caesar"and attributed to that seer (now a soothsayer) the phrase, "Beware the Ides of March".
March 15, 2025 at 9:49 PM
According to Greek Historian and philosopher Plutarch, Caesar had been warned by a seer that he would be harmed on the Ides. That day he saw the seer again saying basically, "Well the ides are here" implyign he was fine, to which the seer replied, "Yes, here but not yet gone".

Interestingly, it was the day set aside for the payment of taxes, rent, and other bills accumulated. This is seen today in our American Tax Day being on the 15th, and on some places collecting rent that day, paying out paychecks the 15th, etc.
March 15, 2025 at 9:31 PM
The Ides, March 15th, are so called because of the date according to the Roman calendar. Martius was the first month of the Roman year until about 2ndC BCE. Idus was the middle of the month, which for March is the 15th.

"He played a critical role in the events that led to the demise of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire." Wikipedia tells us.
