I never said it wasn’t cruel and hard on the employees families. And you were right about Valve to be fair but they are in a unique situation because Steam prints money.

Never said it wasn't due to money. But a 4-5 year project isn't that easy to plan all in advance, especially a creative project. It doesn't have to be all due to management incompetence. There are also some specific industry scenarios like targeting hardware with a limited shelf life (consoles).

Fair but sometimes the scope of the project makes it hard to determine dates with exactitude. Like good luck planning a 5 year project like the Witcher 4 or something even longer like GTA 6.

I agree but will you accept that there
are some scenarios where crunch is likely and these scenarios happen sometimes in the game industry? It can be the scope of the project too. Sometimes games are 4-5 year projects. It’s hard to plan a project of that scope accurately.

Ok bud, have a nice day.

Never said it was a good thing, just that it happens. It used to happen more when the gaming industry revolved around retail.

Good point, they make hats now.

I’ve known people who work in game companies and crunch is very real. It may be short (a month or two) but it happens.
November 27, 2025 at 9:38 PM
Oh of course and they are hurting the customers as well by rushing the product. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. Look up EA wives if you don’t believe me.
November 27, 2025 at 9:36 PM
? Have you worked in the industry?
November 27, 2025 at 9:33 PM
Yeah that’s true Valve can do that. But most game companies have to hit deadlines for the holidays.
November 27, 2025 at 9:32 PM
Not always. Creative work isn’t like building a bridge. Estimates aren’t perfect.
November 27, 2025 at 9:08 PM
Outside of crunch time, game companies are flexible but hard deadlines require crunch.
November 27, 2025 at 8:53 PM
Eh, Valve is the game industry they do everything to keep them happy because crunch time is really hardcore.

The 90's had the Rodney King riots, the war in Somalia, the wars in Chekoslovakia, Yugoslavia, the Iraq Wars, the dot com crash, Y2K, etc... It had plenty of bullshit, but it hit harder overseas.

You do a great job of preserving your whites and capturing the intensity of the pyro. Nice work.
