I think these are all real and serious issues worth discussing, and that we're mostly all in agreement.
my only point was just you can write a good and balanced article arguing for continuing NHP research (absolutely critical!) without stooping to "monkey powers AI. oh and China's doing it better"

yeah I have zero doubt NHP researchers (and any animal researcher for that matter) care about their animals.
But tbf I don't think "China might be housing their monkeys poorly so don't defund ours in the US" is the argument they were going for...

mice are not monkeys are not humans, none of them are RNNs. There are 1000 things each can/not do bc they have different bodies and live in different environments.
