We know people need reassurance, evidence and expert information about cervical screening, so they feel confident and empowered to attend, and trust in the programme. This Cervical Screening Awareness Week, we will be sharing info on screening, the changes, and tips to make the appointment easier.

Our survey revealed the extent of worry and anxiety around the recent changes to the cervical screening programme. Over 40% of women in England are worried that being screened less often isn’t safe and round a third would be worried about getting cervical cancer if they were screened less often.

Our survey revealed the extent of worry and anxiety around the recent changes to the cervical screening programme. Over 40% of women in England are worried that being screened less often isn’t safe and round a third would be worried about getting cervical cancer if they were screened less often.
Last week NHS England announced changes to the cervical screening programme, moving screening intervals for those who haven’t had high-risk HPV found recently from 3 to 5 years for all eligible ages. This brings England in line with Scotland and Wales, who were already screening every 5 years.
