In the 70s I sold mainframes door-to-door. My first 4 domains were free. There were no registrars, or ICAAN, or hosting vendors. My nick was pre-banned from SEO forums. Claude AI just rejected me. All my program languages are dead.
The possibility of user moderation of images. OCR of -say- political text would be great but start with something like cat pix.

IIRC, a few years after the Netherlands passed an end-of-life physician practices act in the early 2000s nearly 2% of deaths were assisted.

Again, this is about reducing human suffering. IF a person is mentally coherent & capable of deciding how their life should end I believe it is their right. www.dignityindying.org.uk/assisted-dyi...
Assisted dying around the world - Dignity in Dying
Around 300 million people around the world have legal access to assisted dying, ensuring dying people do not suffer against their wishes. These laws have functioned safely and effectively for decades....

because they are barely able to get by as it is.

Or, I could give an idea of costs for providing a single adult with a pseudo-middle-class life in in low-cost-of-living small town ---about $5500 per month. Those costs can & will skyrocket if/when they have severe medical issues

And I'm not trying to convert anyone's beliefs here. But I can remind others that the issue can be more gray than black & white. There is more than enough angst about this & the scenarios are many. I know of others who are giving mentally disabled daughters puberty-blockers & -later- birth control

The issue is what causes the least suffering.

liberal and also philanthropic.

BUT they did predecease one of their disabled children. As it happens, sterilization was avoided mostly by having around-the-clock attendants and/or private 'halfway houses' for several decades. Not many can bear that cost.

It's unfortunate, but those scenarios are fairly common in the US. This I know because family members were Directors of a large national foundation for the disabled and also recipients of the Salvation Army's "Others" award. So the care and planning was -using the terms carefully here-

But what about the significantly disabled child of the average middle-class American? I have learned of one acquaintance (married to an moderately disabled partner) and they suffered a horrific last few years of their lives without really be able to care for themselves or one another.

One of the common problems is that the supporters predecease the supportee(s). In the US, the gov support net is thin and seemingly getting thinner. Some states thinner than others --particularly for the mentally ill. If wealthy enough (few are) a trust could be set up with large fees extracted.

A family member just had this happen on a win11 laptop last night. I have the same model laptop and mine updated no problem.

They eventually had to (clench their jaw and) reboot. It worked.

Of course, the scope of the disability and possible treatments must be taken into account. Depression? No. But how about someone institutionalized for schizophrenia from puberty until in their 40s and unable to handle their own finances?
December 16, 2025 at 5:09 PM
Unfortunately, I have experience with this with family members. When parents/elders try to create a normal life for an emotionally OR physically disabled person by -say- finding them a partner or encouraging children the end result was the parents ended up supporting two or more with disabilities.

Way Pool at $5/way (1960s dollars) is a good money game but if you're running hot there isn't anything that pays out like high$$ Keno.

And lucrative if you're a skinny boy who doesn't look like he knows which end of the cue to hold.

My hometown pool hall was where Wimpy Lassiter & pals hung out between Straight Pool championships.

Bsky seriously needs image ocr moderation. I have the firehose pounded into something useable using tampermonkey but I can't get to the graphics. So, I mute those who post them.

When I last looked, Germany limited balcony solar to 800 watts. That's 800w more than my state currently allows, but it ain't gonna -say- let you do peak shaving.

We still have the Ruby toilet-bidet combo with updated oil-rubbed bronze trim in our master bath because other toilets are a downgrade.
December 14, 2025 at 4:11 PM
That bidet is likely from the high-$$ Eljer 'Patrician' model line (color: Ruby IIRC). For custom homes the 1-piece lowboy toilet was a sought-after item in the mid-80s for master bedroom suites and guest powder rooms because it had a near-silent flush.
