My goal is to become fully ephemeral next year. My content will start deleting itself automatically within minutes of my typing. Indeed, if this works correctly, some posts will be empty by the time I press the "Post" button.

Call it hyperbole, but that would be an extreme exaggeration.

Just for the sake of perversity I have learned how to type an em dash—so that I can say—fuck GPT.

Well... shit... that worked....

Friends, become truants, please. Avoid responsibilities imposed on you by careless authorities. Do not learn your lessons from school if you can get your information from libraries and ancient repositories of knowledge. Better yet, please all of you consider first your own reason as authority.

No.

Tear down everything. Discard the past which has brought us to this terrible present. Refuse the future. Do not submit to the authority of progress, but do not accept any truth not verified by science and math. Defy all laws other than gravity and entropy. There is nothing to trust other than reason

I will write and then delete. I will speak and then let my words trail off into silence. Humanity needs no permanent record, but should accept only the ephemeral. Just as we are mortal, so should our thoughts die after a brief life.

Politics and industry eventually separate themself far enough from reality that public opinion is insufficient to keep them operating. After the fact, historians call it revolution, but most regimes end because of incompetence rather than popular uprising. Political agitation has neutral effect.

Good writers are flawed. They break rules. They contrive and coerce words in unnatural ways that offend critics and irritate editors.

I have in my mind thoughts about language and music and art. In music, I hold Bach dearly. His compositions are magical to me. On the one hand, they demonstrate mathematical precision. On the other, they project profound emotion. They are elegant in their simplicity. They move me. They make me feel.

Could we use the present moment to reevaluate our relationship with language and writing? Consider the difficulty that conforming to prescriptive grammar imposes on authors. We must spend years in school to learn the rules of formal writing. Many people decide to avoid writing entirely instead.

Critical thinking is the one skill which has any hope of saving humanity.

I do wonder sometimes what posterity will think of me. History is deleting itself quickly now, yet machines suck all of the data that they can out of the internet. I suspect that archeologists a thousand years will know me as a context vector in the then defunct AI which took over the US in 2027.

I want to say something, but the ones who really need to hear how bad all of this is are precisely the ones least likely to listen. Everyone else already knows.

I do not want to make or join a startup. I am tired of working in companies where million dollar or hundred million dollar budgets go leaders whose only qualification is that they worked in five other startups which never succeeded in producing a working product.

I want a business, not a startup.

Today is a day. Specifically, it is a national holiday in the country in which I live. Certain family members have strictly prohibited me from engaging in any software-development activities.

So....

...

...

Not opening that IDE. No python.

...

Cool.

...

Under control.

...

I can do this!

To me the human form seems absurd. What are these two legs on which we stand? Why do we need both of these eyes looking out of our faces? These hands, with these fingers, surely there is a better way to hold and move the pieces of the world than these.

Being merely human galls me. Oh, my brain.

Each of us, ever one of us has the same power to learn and understand. Our brains contain approximately the same computational power. We have all of us access to the accumulated knowledge of thousands of human generations.

We are at the pinnacle of human potential, and we are all equal in capacity.

Every so often, I learn a new thing about the grammar and spelling. Today I learned that "burnout" is a single word, and not "burn out."

To me this fact says more about life in the modern world than it does about the English language, but surely you will agree that this is educational either way.

To say that people in general are stupid or evil is an approximation of reality with no actionable consequences. People have reasons for what they do, even when they do not understand those reasons. In fact it is more true to say that in general reasons for doing things come from a grand context.

Smart is better than dumb. Noisy, rude and ignorant may seem dominant at times, but that is a temporary illusion. Over the long term, those who seek accurate information will have the advantage over those who find comfort in falsehood. The mind is the greatest tool that any of us have access to.

When meet someone that you do not like, is it because you see them as different than you, or is it because you see aspects of them that are the same in you? People are mirrors to us, to all of us. We are more similar than different, and the feeling that that causes is not always comfortable.

It feels like winter is here. There is a chill. There is a definite chill.

For human beings, power comes from our ability to speak and to reason. The marginal are those whose voices cannot be heard. Those who wish to take your power need not silence you if they can speak more loudly than you. In the modern world technology is the tool for amplifying voices. Use it, please.
