I'm prepared to be wrong but I really don't think many people will ever run the most capable largest models locally. There are too many efficiencies in serving inference from shared infrastructure.

More likely the data centers all just end up in red states running off of natural gas turbines

Sorry for being imprecise in what was obviously not a carefully argued post. Whatever the exact number is, there's clearly a pretty big gap between “literally all of society hates [it]” and being one of the most visited sites on the web
