Never heard the Genesis version as a kid (which is weird, cause I was raised on 80s music) so when I first showed my dad the Disturbed cover, he went "Oh, this is a Genesis song" and my mind was blown 😂

About time 😂 I've been giving conference talks on this API for years and my caveat at the end is always "It's coming...someday..."

Does it do that every time? Slack caches both static assets and data so it opens quickly and responsively, but if the cache is getting reset somehow, it will definitely slow the initial boot down. Certain releases may bust the cache too if the persisted data schema changes.

As others have said, it's Electron. Slack has been heavily involved in Electron development for years for this very reason. There's >95% code reuse across the desktop apps and app.slack.com.

Also, big props to modern Node.js which lets me write TypeScript without needing a compilation step and has built-in support for SQLite.
