RIP the johnny rockets in pentagon city. Everything they replaced you with has been shite.

It’s one of my favourite lighting & rendering techniques. They used it a lot in film noire, and there’s some really talented DP’s that used it really effectively.

Random concept sketch from last night. Idk anything final about it, just toying with ideas from my world-building project. Need to trial other ideas about anatomical styling choices before I commit to blocking out all of my characters.

Working on the linework for an ink piece. Still need to clean my tech pens bc they’re clogged. Despite my intentions to save time, it turns out my perspective machine is too big for my small drafting desk. So i had to freehand the perspective. Still making up my mind on what’s black & whats not.

It’s a small 35mm rangefinder camera, made in US in the 50’s. There’s quite a few neat designs from that era.
The signet & the bolsey B are absolutely tiny, they could fit in the palm of your hand.

In other news: Testing a new to me Ciro 35. This is the pretty rare higher spec model, with a rapax synchromatic (instead of the alphax), and the ƒ/2.8 wollensak tessar design, instead of the ƒ/4.5 or ƒ/3.5 triplet design that other models used. So i’m expecting a little more of this.

Kinda need to tweak the muzzle design and make the bridge of the nose feature more broad to compensate for inter pupillary width. I may need to model a rubber gasket or something for the lenses.

Got distracted by this again. Getting closer to being symmetrical. Callipers help but only so much. Just deciding on whether the cheek feature should be broadened or not. And whether the “ear” feature should be modelled together or not. Still leaning toward a separate cast for “metal” bits.

Tragedy struck today, and my ef 50mm ƒ/1.4 usm got destroyed today. So i’m a little mad about that.

Still need to get back to this sooner or later.

Speedpaint I did on a lark awhile back and finished tonight, of the aerodrome in republic city, and a rigid airship on approach with the search lights illuminating the sky.

Sketch from like 2 months ago Idk i ever posted of the goblin and tiefling couple I had on the back-burner awhile back. Need to throw lines on this.

Half finished concept of a design rework on K’alin from like… 2 months ago.

Finally decided this piece is done, and posting it.

the first 3 are pretty early production run mitchell standards, without the later parrallax compensating director’s viewfinder. The last photo is a mitchell as well as the more uncommon but innovative akeley gyro.

The first photo, the camera was a bell & howell 2709, which was a pretty popular camera until the mid 20’s when Mitchell improved upon it. The 4th i couldn’t make it out.
The lights are mole Richardson type 23 “double broad” open face lights. (They use mogul base 500-1000w bulbs)

This is uh… yuuuge.
I finally went in on the EF 35-350mm ƒ/3.5-5.6 bc i wanted a general purpose lens and this would be great for most daylight situations.
October 6, 2025 at 1:45 AM
Yuuuuuup. It do be that way.

Finally got around to inking that piece.
Tires look sloppy bc i didn’t have an oval template w/ me. Need to honestly get a portable drafting machine.

New gig, new digs.

Been a hot minute since I did any military vehicle stuff. Will ink it later after some tweaking.
Kinda based on the ferret scout car but with some artistic liberties of my own conception.

The fact that the british decided that the maxim machine gun was not enough, and that it needed to be bigger, is both disquieting and hilarious.
Like they made a machine gun, that fired 1 lb shells (37mm, 1⅜”) at a rate of 300 a minute.
Basically the first autocannon. In the victorian era.

Another art form vital but often forgotten, is background paintings. While Mattes are optical composites with live performance integrated through the latent image process; backdrops are large scale paintings which enable set work to pass as location work.
