Did you ever read The Ghost from the Grand Banks by Arthur C. Clarke? It’s also about a venture to raise the wreck of the Titanic on the 100th anniversary of the sinking. It came out in 1990, so 2012 seemed like the distant future. Lol!

To me, the best film about the sinking of the Titanic is still A Night To Remember from 1958, based on Walter Lord’s incredible book. It’s nowhere near as good in terms of the visuals, but it tells the real story from the accounts of the people who lived through it.

Now this will sound like total BS, but I could swear that I was reading that book back in 1985 and that the night I got to the chapter where they finally locate the wreck, that morning was when the news broke that Ballard’s team had found the Titanic. It’s probably just my memory playing tricks.

Yep! Based on the novel by Clive Cussler. Jason Robards, Richard Jordan, Anne Archer, and a cameo appearance by Sir Alec Guinness. Came out in 1980. The story is more akin to The Hunt for Red October, as it’s a race between the US and the Soviet Union to find a rare mineral in the ship’s hold.
