Vested interest and probably written by their AI.
It's impossible to be that ignorant, except on purpose!

Did someone actually say that? No one "creates music" against their will. Some people may be forced to learn an instrument, but they don't compose.

Great cover graphic!

I'm sure you know that most everyone has these plateaus as evidenced by the number of tutorials online 🤣.

For me, the important thing is to not measure myself in terms of what others do or have done, but what I might do that's new enough that it won't be found in a generative AI. And I know I have.

So you're feeling frustrated when progress reaches a plateau? I'm pretty sure I will never be as good at anything as I would like, but I'm happy to make a step or two toward getting better.
I am genuinely interested in what you have to say.

You can use digital photos, printed on transparent paper as negatives, or use objects like leaves. You can expose them in sunlight. You can buy the pretreated paper or make your own with the two-chemical kit. Or, get raw and order the powders once you're addicted like me.

Nothing stuck? How about cyanotype? It's fairly straightforward, artistic and gratifying. Good for all ages, too.
I always wanted to play saxophone. At when I was in ly late sixties, I rented one to see if I could make a noise. I bought one, practiced and now I own 3 noisemakers.

What kinds of things are you talking about? It seems you've tried many?

There's a second version of the color one.
December 2, 2025 at 4:39 PM
If you mean the black and white one, I may have used it actually. Reminds me of the movie "On the Beach", which takes place after a nuclear war kills everyone.

It will be some day. There's a textile version as well.

The quote wasn't me but the interviewer. Still, I did quit Meta and am still on LinkedIn to follow the careers of the more serious (aka non-musicians) I've known for years. However, I have been on Mastodon since the early days and find it much more interesting than Bluesky, whose future is unclear.

See my long, pretentious opinion on this topic as a multiple post.

It's just another advance in compute and memory capacities and will do great things despite its stupid appellation "Artificial Intelligence". It is neither, just a marketing term. The plagiarism of the arts needs to be addressed, yes. Lawsuits are happening, but they fight the super rich.
December 1, 2025 at 5:55 AM
But in the meantime, the tech should be put to addressing things like new ways to diagnose and cure horrible diseases. New ways to alleviate poverty and misery would a great use of the resources now being spent on fake porn videos and insane country songs. I'm not worried about AI taking over.
December 1, 2025 at 5:55 AM
This is exactly what we do in the arts. Anyone can take photos. Software+hardware can take an infinite number of them and some might be as good as any photographer's eye, but that selection would be from what came before in photography. When AI is able to create the wheel, we may say "Intelligence".
December 1, 2025 at 5:55 AM
Unfortunately, we are drowning in news of AI bros and their plans. Some are batshit crazy, announcing the arrival of the antichrist. Others are hiring and firing million-dollar talents. AI can't create, it can only look at existing things, absorb them and spit them out in new combinations.
December 1, 2025 at 5:55 AM
We don't know if the world will shift into a more useful view of the *potential* of AI. I see no actual intelligence, but a near-infinite compute power and memory that allows the technology to beat chess masters, etc. Impressive at that, and possibly game changing in some areas.
December 1, 2025 at 5:55 AM
Distaste of AI is a huge topic, and it seems everyone must detest "AI slop" or be ostracised. This anti-AI sentiment is as ubiquitous and as useless as the endless political posts that must be diligently filtered to remain sane. Constant complaining about AI slop has no effect on it.

If I have exact dates enough in advance, there's a local place that's set up nicely with a sound system etc to play for people (and no money).
November 30, 2025 at 3:44 PM
It's true, I find often they have to be made aware of this. I say, "In a quartet, there are 16 combinations possible".
Ok, no one playing and everyone playing aside, 14.
Bass + drums only, intro by one instrument, two. Keys come in after one verse. Break it down in the middle.
Let's play live!

What else will be in the filling once the pumpkin is mashed up? We can't find canned here. Used to be American stores, but now, no more.
