Chocolate from my kid: Black Thunder Shifuku no Butter.

Wow, the butter really hits hard. French and Hokkaido butter holding together crunchy cookie bits, covered in chocolate. Delicious.

My mom couldn't find purple pansies at the 4 places she went looking for them. Today I drove 45 miles to bring her purple pansies. She gave me a Christmas cactus because she is incapable of letting me leave empty-handed.

I never noticed it before, but @npr.org's book reviews have a little blue "looking for this book" button. It pops up with options for WorldCat and @indiebound.bsky.social as well as the usual Amazon.

New books this week by Gish Jen, Philip Pullman and more www.npr.org/2025/10/21/n...

I hope parents won't throw their hands up and accept this. Talking with your kid is essential.
Human reading time reinforces the bonding between child & parent as well as fostering a love of reading. It's free and it doesn't feed the environment-destroying, job-stealing plagiarism machine.

Two things I learned during my storage room (roomlet?) cleaning out project:

2) The vacuum has stopped working.

I'm stoked that hummingbirds are enjoying our cardinal flowers. I was too slow to get a picture (again) and I'm still happy.

When I was a kid more than 40 years ago, we ate Sugar Smacks, Pop Tarts, Spam, etc. I was 12 when I learned that you can make a cake without a box of cake mix.
You can't get more processed than a Twinkie. It was invented in 1930.
