Australian. Alas, no cat!
For years corporate IT has been saying “save your stuff to the corporate drive, don’t keep it local“. And so teaching people not to make their own backups.
I might be the odd one out in this but I bet he’s been trained that stuff not on your local box is safer than stuff that is.

Nope. The US is not signed up to that. Because they knew they would commit war crimes in the future and didn't want to have to take the consequences.
This idea that the US is not bound by anything at all is not new.

SO how many votes does the US get compared to others? Because if population based Oz and the Kiwis would nope out.
January 21, 2026 at 3:58 AM
I am not sure how "gunzel" as Oz slang for a train fan (not trainspotter as it includes people who work on the railway) fits in.

Consider Renfrew Christie who managed to get the instructions for destroying South Africa's nuclear setup read out in court.

So if it is going to be read out, make it count!

Sounds a bit like "The Communist Party is banned, the Communist Party is anything the government says is the Communist Party" that Doc Evatt fought so hard against. And a Labor government is all for it now?

Don't do the petrol thing much anymore... but my recollection is that they used to exist in Oz but were phased out. I think more or less the same time that self pumping got big presumably because some idiots would not turn it off before pulling the hose out.

And behold it came to pass.

Suppose I should report I went on my sleeper car without issue.
I did like it even though there were some very rough bits.

Was it worth the extra? Actually for me, yes as the money isn't a huge issue. Mind you, I much prefer the single cabins you used to get on the Overland!

My motorcycle broke down and I was waiting for the tow in 38degC heat, a stranger in a country town. Someone gave me a can of Coke and someone else a bottle of water. Normal decent people are everywhere.
January 16, 2026 at 12:14 AM
Hmm... really was the Forgoten Army I guess!
January 16, 2026 at 12:00 AM
Total Oz population is about 26mill, not sure of the "farm" population but capital cities are about 18mill, bigger country towns would be most of the rest so I suspect controlling for population means we'd be close to your 1 every 3 days.
Same issue with access to medical care as well.

"On average, 30 children aged under 15 die on Australian farms each year as a result of farm injury. 1/3 of these involve children who are visiting a farm at the time of injury. This equates to roughly one farm-related child fatality every 10 days." aghealth.sydney.edu.au/wp-content/u...

So maybe down to the Brits not making WW2 anymore and the Yanks not wanting to do anything they aren't the heroes in?
January 15, 2026 at 10:20 PM
Bit tricky to find the extras to play the Japanese? And to find enough jungle? At least up until the 80s or so. Dunno Brits were making war movies after the 80s and the Yanks wouldn't be into Burma because they'd have to be nice about Chiang Kai-Shek
January 15, 2026 at 5:42 AM
Never were any in that bit. It's not near the gauge changes.
January 7, 2026 at 8:00 PM
i meant the 10kmh zones.
January 6, 2026 at 6:35 AM
Where are those? Not on King St?
January 6, 2026 at 6:03 AM
Umm... wow! That is indeed a take that calls everything else he says into question.

Now has one person who claims Jewish identity done something like that? Almost certainly, humans gonna human. But that says nothing about Jews as a class in any way.

The fireworks weren't bad but I had more fun stoking the steamship I was watching them from.
January 2, 2026 at 5:33 AM
I retreated to the airconditioned bedroom yes.

Note for Australian women especially of a larger size. Tradies do bamboo "long leg no chafe" boxers. A lot of boxers I tried didn't go below the natural curve of my thigh and tended to rise up and bunch up. They are closer fitting though so test to see if they give enough circulation for you.

Oh boy are you going to hate it if you have to move back down to the Great Australian Heat Island of Sydney. BOM says Campsie got down to 24 last night, I think the weather station at Canterbury racetrack might have but the rest of the place not so much.
December 21, 2025 at 8:49 PM
Was he American? I have seen Americans saying plumber is middle class and while a boss of a plumbing firm might be in Oz the one with his hands in the sewer pipe is working class.
December 20, 2025 at 10:29 PM
Off the top of my head: need for highways in the first place. Amount of money going on roads majorly used for private cars compared to money on public transport (with a side order of freight: how much, where, and why). Motor (oil, metal, pollution) vs active transport. Sprawl vs community.
