Hey Steve, if you liked the movie, I'd highly recommend the Southern Reach series by Jeff van der Meer. (The Movie is based on the first book)
Its story is a bit different from the movie, but it has its own flavour of weirdness.

The real way to ascertain if you are a "game dev" or not is to see if you are overworked and underpaid or not.
