'so, Jeremy, what do you think about the long term impacts of the GINI Coefficient being so high, and the degree to which this has driven an increase in poverty, and a contraction in the middle classes?'

'umm... Er... I DON'T LIKE YOUR TEETH!'

🤦

Oh absolutely.

Something is going right, just not for us!

That's so horrible. I'm so sorry, that's awful.

Oh god yeah. They're in a different world, and will have wealth managers who's job it is to maximise their wealth, and minimise the tax they pay.

That's part of why it's a challenge to do - they're /experts/ at avoiding tax. But we need to try, and we need to get it right.

Taxation based on asset ownership is where I'd start.

indeed wouldn't be easy, but the implication is that they *want* to do it, but are declaring it technically impossible.

But, that's not what they say. Instead they assert we should keep selling off the assets. It's failing. That's a fact.

Across the country the question we should be constantly asking is 'who owns Britain?'.

The super rich buy land, property (commercial & residential), businesses (equities, shares), debt (commercial bonds, govt bonds, treasury gilts), and they even own our mortgages).

And they even get paid for it.

They don't want to kill the golden goose, because they think it's actually benefitting ordinary people. 'investment brings jobs', we're told.

Problem is the focus is always on *quantity* of jobs. Never the quality. Never on how much they pay.

It's irrelevant anyway. The point is not geographic location. It's asset ownership.

We've been selling Britain to the super rich for four decades, and we can do that regardless of where in the world they live.

No doubt it would need careful design. Nobody said it was easy.

But, we've done it before. Post war, we had a wealth tax.... And hey presto, we created Social Security, created the NHS, and kick started the largest expansion of the middle classes in the history of the country.

Our enemies shall talk themselves to death, and we will bury them with their own confusion. We shall prevail!

I say bring it on.
Someone has to offer a solid challenge to Neoliberalism. It sure isn't going to be Starmer.
