What do we mean by “this is water?“ Let’s just say it’s timely. Come on down.

This may sound odd but it’s true. If you liked #Sinners, I hope you’ll come see “this is water.” We are grappling with the same stuff (whiteness) w/ completely different metaphors – vampirism and water. World premiere in June at @hollywoodfringe.bsky.social

In this week’s “A Habit of Hope,” I write about a newspaper that arose in the wake of the epic Flood of 1982 & brought vital information and connection to a community – a newspaper that lasted only 18 days. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Inverness Daily News.

No doom today. Less heartsick venting about the administration taking over the board of the Kennedy Center, more music in the streets. Less asking “why won’t they do something“ and more showing up in person at your Congressmember‘s office /1

OK Folks. It’s one thing to say #wehavethepower & it’s another to show it. Whatever you need to spend $ on, do it before or after 2/28. And if you absolutely must shop, shop local.

When we organize together, we have more power than we know.

Take it seriously, pass it on. Please and thank you.

Seen on the fence at a neighbor’s – a neighbor who recently was waving a “space force“ flag. The thing about tyrants is they always have to worry about revolution. You never know when the people are going to reach a tipping point.

On the way to a family gathering in Phoenix, my hubby and I spent a couple nights at the Grand Canyon. It felt good to be on the edge, looking through the strata of time, as the cold breeze blew through to my skin.

This week’s essay is about positive deviance.

He wants to divide us into "us vs. them" and he's on to something but not in the way he thinks. Whether we voted for him or not, it's time for us to get laser-focused on us vs THEM. This week's "A Habit of Hope" is live. ahabitofhope.substack.com/p/us

There’s also just something about them. I’ve attached Joan Didion’s excellent essay about the Santa Anas from her book “Slouching Towards Bethlehem.“ But the point is, they are a fact of life here, have been forever.

When tragedy strikes, Mr. Rogers said "look for the helpers," and there are so many beautiful stories out of the LA Fires of neighbors helping neighbors. This week's "A Habit of Hope" newsletter features a person who is helping our climate crisis at an epic scale. open.substack.com/pub/ahabitof...
