I mean Ash did get his badge back anyway.
I guess maybe the most "wholesome" way without it being too repetitive would've been Max to be wow'd by Grovyle's overgrowth and acknowledged Ash as becoming stronger, but that's bit too mature for him...and not as funny from what we got imo. lol.

I guess I meant, how would you have wanted the handing of the badge to go? The episodes leading up to this one had Max talking up Norman, so even not having him take it, would've been unsatisfying to just be a normal handoff like none of that happened.

Yeah, and he really thought his dad was the strongest guy too, calling him potential elite four level. But it was also the first time he actually watched his dad battle. Honestly it felt really human for him to react that way.
