How Much It Costs to Run a Literary Journal – 2025

Radon Journal is a not-for-profit science fiction publisher committed to transparency. This is our yearly public financial thread. We also want to show aspiring editors the true costs of running a semi-pro journal. #writingcommunity (1/10)

Only one week until @philconconvention.bsky.social and Radon editors appear in the wild for the first time.

Our EIC, Managing Editor, and four other editors will be there in the dealer's room Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

We're bringing more books, stickers, and merch than we were told we should.

Issue 12 starting to take shape. 4 poems and 3 short stories so far. Expecting a number of acceptances to go out after our editorial meeting Thursday.

We read until the end of Dec but we'd like to get almost all the decisions by mid-December. Submitting in the next month would be best for authors

We're a bit behind on the slush pile, sorry about that. But two new poetry acceptances went out tonight. Fiction folks, nows your chance to impress us. That tightly written 2-4k story full of space rage? That's for us and you know it

We're kicking off our story/poem spotlights with ABSOLUTION by Jared Chen-Wynn!

Eerie and haunting, just in time for Halloween.

If you could start over with a clean slate, would you also accept a clean brain?

The chosen them was "cyberpunk" and the poetry community responded in droves. If you enjoy Radon poetry, you'll absolutely enjoy these twenty poems

Journal returned to normal submission numbers with about 1,430 split between fiction and poetry.

With 15 accepted poems and stories, we had about 1% acceptance rate.

Our final author reveal for Wednesday's Issue 11

We double-dip into the poetic mind of Mark Dimaisip, explore some wholesome space-love with
@marisca.bsky.social, and read an underground (literally) resistance battle with Bryn Farrar.
