'With early support and understanding, children and adults with DLD can absolutely thrive — they just need the world to listen, learn and be aware', wrote Kayleigh Corbett mum of a child with DLD.
This #DLDday we are raising awareness of Developmental Language Disorder to make these words a reality

You can't see DLD (Developmental Language Disorder ) so what does it look like in the classroom?
DLD can look like ADHD but you'll also notice that children with DLD have difficulty using words and sentences and understanding, even when they are focussed.

DLD is different in each child, but looking back many parents remember a time that their child's language stood out, like Nichole here who noticed her child struggling with literacy and spoken sentences.
This example is of a child, but it affects adults too.

You can't see DLD, and so many people's needs are missed. They go through life struggling, never knowing that there is a reason why things are so hard for them.

You can't see DLD, so how do you spot it in the classroom?
DLD can look like ADHD, autism or dyslexia, but DLD (Developmental Language Disorder) is about spoken language. The core difficulties are with understanding and using words and sentences.

Even when told about DLD lots of people don't seem to get what it is. And so we asked the experts, people with DLD (Developmental Language Disorder). One young person said DLD was 'trying to learn, but the words won't click.'
How do you explain DLD to others?
