Your book is on my TBR list. Seems to me that originalism is perfectly consistent w/ conservatism's essence & its sole precept. The essence is that deference to authority is instilled in each generation by living forebears, as the authority figures. The precept is 'do as I say, not as I do.'

Conservatives turn to Fox news because deferring to authority figures is inculcated into each generation of conservatives by the previous generation. It is the rite of passage, ritualistic algorithm & mimetic essence of conservatism, i.e., conservatism is methodologically driven, not ideologically.

That any truth-seeking organizaxn--be they journalistic, academic, scientific or legal--resorts to euphemisms is confounding, unless the org has been corrupted, coopted or coerced.

I'm only 1 chapter in to @hcrichardson.bsky.social's *How the South Won the Civil War*, but as I understand it, her thesis echos or supports this view, tho by going into more detail w/r/t how plantation owning whites relied on/devised racial, et al, hierarchies, to frame freedom . . .
