Also: grading handwritten work is much more joyful, much less monotonous, than grading the same type over and over. I can feel each piece as its own.

For early adolescents, I've found it much more helpful to prompt them to find concepts and emotions that matter in the text, THEN introduce the structure. Substance first.

take away their phones, then teach books WITH lots of scaffolds, multiple modalities, and shared responsibility for learning
