Vertigo - 1971
So the journey through my Swirls reaches here.
A dictionary definition of modern jazz could have a picture of the LP.
Sorry but not for me. Most of the time, to these ears, it sounded like a tune fighting to get out & failing.

Polydor -1970
Second & final LP from Baker’s jazz/rock super group (Baker + Denny Laine, Graham Bond, Ric Grech)
Upbeat & although led by a drummer, not as drums forward as I was fearing.
Role reversal with Baker now the leader & Bobd the sideman

Vertigo - 1971
Canadian!
Funky!
Rock base with a full brass section making a really upbeat LP.
This was their (I think) third LP - the previous releases Canada only & making no impact.
Rich sound even if some of the lyrics are a bit hippy dippy

Transatlantic - 1973
Time to get Medieval on your ass with this prog outfit that used mainly medieval & renaissance instruments.
I found it interesting.

MCA - 1972
A true classic & the LP all other Ash releases would be judged by.
Not a dud on it & my own fave is Throw Down The Sword.
CD as can’t get to my vinyl copy.

I believe Graham Bond should be better remembered but LPs like this are the reason he isn’t.
An unwell man from heroin addiction & an obsession with the occult.
These issues committed to vinyl - complete with satanic chanting.

Sony/EMI - 2025
Excellent 3 LP punk & new wave compilation from the Now franchise.
Soundtrack of my mid teens when you heard new music through Radio One

Original 1967 - CD reissue 2021
Third LP & Pete Townshend is already looking beyond basic rock & roll LPs - Tommy was up next.
Interspersed with fake adverts to make the whole thing sound like the pirate radio stations of the time.
Probably overlooked these days but a great LP

Original - Pye - 1968 - this issue 2018
Banned from touring the US & Ray Davies’ lyrics get parochial & the subjects very English - village greens, the passing of steam trains amongst other subjects.
Probably my favourite Kinks LP

Vertigo - 1970
This one if the few Swirls where I know nothing about the band & can’t find anything either.
Country rock & they pick up the pace n side 2.
Not bad but nothing outstanding.

Island - 1970
Farewell the Peter Sinfield - lyricist on the early King Crimson LP before moving on to such diverse acts as ELP & Bucks Fizz.
Lots of jazz influences here & pretty good.
Single Cat Food even got them on TOTP.

Columbia - 1974
Farewell then Aerosmith: calling it a day due to Steven Tyler’s voice.
This is their second LP and not bad- a band still finding its feet.
