More Panama Highlights:

1-2) The gymnasium at Fe y Alegria, a Jesuit facility repurposed to house the people expelled from the US on military flights last month. They are all from Asia and Africa, and very young.

3) A room inside the abandoned building housing migrants.

4) The boats that go to Colombia from Miramar. The total cost is $250 per person to get there. There is only one boat a day and it fits 30 people. 30 people per boat once a day

2) The local Catholic Church in Miramar serving lunch and drinks to a group of 34 people there, including 14 children. They are stuck because they can’t pay the cost of the boat to get them to Colombia. (There are no roads that connect.) They are all returnees from attempts to go north.

The Panama delegation is having an eye opening experience on their trip. Here are some recent highlights:

1) A vacant building repurposed to hold stranded migrants from Venezuela, in Miramar, Panama.

3) Holding center in Costa Rica holding migrants from one of the US deportation flights. 130 people, including dozens of children are held there without any hope of leaving

4) & 5) Volunteers at the emergency meal program for migrants where they serve 80 to 100 meals a day

Quixote Center ED Kim Lamberty, along with others from the Haiti Advocacy Working Group, spent the day on Capitol Hill on Wed. and met with staff from Senate & House Foreign Relations Committees & Senator Schumer’s office. They discussed how to move forward legislation to benefit the people of Haiti
