December 25, then.” “No.” “June 6… 19—” “Stop it.” “—66.” “That's four sixes, not three, so you're not so clever, are you?” Aziraphale plants his fists firmly on his hips in his Smugly Satisfied Lecturing Pose. In a battle between Crowley's most mischievous and conciliatory tones, the latter ultimately wins out. “Why don’t you choose for me?” Aziraphale's hands fall to his sides. He regards Crowley seriously. “Oh, I couldn't possibly. It's an incredibly personal decision.” Crowley scrolls on his mobile again. “July 16. World Snake Day. Any objections?”[130] When Aziraphale shakes his head, he continues, “We need years, too.” “I've already got a year. April 25, 1941—a significant year, for obvious reasons.” Aziraphale pictures smoke and rubble and Oh, the books. “Somewhat of a rebirth in terms of my outlook.” Crowley rolls the tail ends of Aziraphale’s bowtie between his fingers. Brushes an affectionate knuckle on his chin. “You're going to want to update that. You may have the sensibilities and fashion sense of an octogenarian but you simply have too much youthful beauty to pull it off. We can both pick a new year.”

When Aziraphale arrives home, he’s greeted by the vision of the love of his life stringing Christmas lights along the roof of their cottage. “I see you’ve kept yourself occupied,” he says wearily. “What’s the occasion?” “Christmas in July, angel!” Crowley hops off the ladder leaning against the cottage (thankfully, not head first) and pushes his sunglasses up into his hair. He appears to be feeling much better than when Aziraphale left him, though perhaps slightly manic. “It’s June twenty-seventh.” “Getting into the spirit early. Stupendous concept, Christmas in July. ‘S not one of my top-tier ideas, but it still has merit. All of the Yuletide commercialism with none of the religiosity or sentimentality.”[27] Aziraphale softens slightly. “Oh Crowley, you like the sentimentality. Don’t think I don’t know you watch It’s a Wonderful Life every year. When the angel Clarence gets his wings you always cr—” [27] Christmas in July was actually the brainchild of the demon Mammon—Crowley overheard him discussing it with Belphegor at the lava heater after a staff meeting. Unfortunately for Mammon, he was inconveniently discorporated before formally registering the idea. Crowley was more than happy to take advantage and slide his name on the paperwork while Mammon was awaiting processing for a new corporation. However, the non-festive designs for the Starbucks red holiday cups are all Crowley’s.

Besides, my birth date is in April—April 25, to be exact.”[128] Aziraphale smirks, mightily proud of his taste in birth dates. “Pleasant weather, temperate. Not too hot, not too cold—” “All you need is a light jacket.”[129] One side of Crowley’s mouth ticks like he’s considering smirking right back but it collapses in a straight line, thinking better of it. “Precisely.
