I found some Facebook discussions about the sprites on a spanish group.And with an image search, I found some Reddit posts
Seems it is a known fact that they appeared when playing with cheats (something that I didn't do when mine glitched). Another user says that it is because of too much ram usage.

This past few weeks I saw the first 3 of the "Night of the living dead" movies.
And they were amazing, so I figured, "Land of the living dead" would be at least good. I was so wrong.
I'm normally not a big hater, I love a lot of bad movies, but this one breaks me, I hate this movie.

Even though it is a small project, it works as a reminder that you will always have limitations, and it is easy to say "I can't do this, for x thing" and keep waiting for the perfect moment to start
