Welcome new followers/Twitter refugees! We're thrilled to have you here after we were graciously included in a couple of JRRT "Starter Packs".

Just to reintroduce ourselves, Queer Lodgings is a Tolkien podcast with 3 Queer co-hosts - Alicia, Leah, and Grace. 🧵
Great quotes here from Janet Croft, our most recent podcast guest, as well as past guest Robin Reid.

In short, get fucked, fascists. Tolkien doesn't belong to you, and he sure as fuck wouldn't be advocating for ICE's gestapo tactics.

Merci Bladorthin de nous avoir mentionné dans votre fil de discussion Tolkien Trewsday à propos d'Eowyn et des « Maisons de guérison » !
@tolkiendil.bsky.social

I feel like @stef.athrabeth.com needs to see this meme after her @westmoot.org presentation. I dare not share it in the Tolkien Society Discord server. 😅

(inspired by the @queerlodgings.bsky.social episode with @roryq.bsky.social and Stuart)

Aldarion is also my fave Middle-earth punching bag.

Producer Tim is at @westmoot.org this weekend, and I'd love to meet some new Lodgers and Birches! Please introduce yourselves!

There are also @queerlodgings.bsky.social and @bythebywater.bsky.social which are definitely more white but have representation that is not just straight and male

Listeners will have heard us reference this paper by Rawls on multiple past episodes. Definitely one of the most important and influential early works on gender in Tolkien.
For Black History Month, did you know that one of our foundational Tolkien scholars is a Black woman? Melanie Rawls wrote "The Feminine Principle in Tolkien" (1984), among THE seminal works on women and Tolkien. She's written on JRRT and Ursula Le Guin among others and is a fantasist herself.

Great opportunity here to submit on some progressive topics in Tolkien - disability, ecology, environmental justice, embodiment/trans readings... So many possibilities!

Whenever I see someone complaining about "identity politics" being applied to Tolkien I just have to laugh because I'm just like--so we agree, we should be considering Tolkien within the queer historical contexts of the early 20th century prior to our rigid binarism of straight/gay identity.

To our trans and enby fans: we see & stand with you during what is going to be a trying 4 years. As the US slides into naked oligarchy & fascism, we encourage you to be politically active on the local level when safe. We commit to being vocally queer & fostering a safe space within this fandom. 🌈
