The fact that the response to Hasan saying “I’ll vote third party over Gavin Newsom” is to try to harass/shame him into voting for Gavin (implicitly treating Gavin’s candidacy/views as inevitable) instead of saying “maybe we should change to convince him” is everything wrong with electoral politics.

Listening to this was like slipping into a warm cup of tea. Incredibly earnest this is a book for someone who is willing to open up and feel things. Erivo knows herself and encourages her reader to get to know themselves better. A short and heartwarming read.

it's literally impossible for an LLM to do a historian's job

When you stop learning you start dying.
I find it bleak how many people seem to have given up on having any kind of intellectual life. Depression is rampant because we’ve abandoned books & hobbies in favor of joyless amusements. The single most attractive thing a person can do is read often & delight in learning.

This is why you need to be reading books and writing your own emails, by the way. When you outsource your thinking abilities, you risk turning your brain into soup. Heavy dependence on AI has already been linked with severe cognitive decline. What you don’t use, you will lose.

Russell gives us a fully realized Catherine Howard. Beyond a silly and careless teenager we are introduced to this Queen through her own household and familial history. It rounds her story out and grants her personhood often withheld in other biographies of her.

I had higher hopes for this. It's an older book, it is highly recommend. I think I went in with expectations closer to Caitlin Starling and this is more Philippa Gregory. I love both styles I just had different hopes for this. Still a decent book.
