I thought there were ways to make the fifth not applicable. I thought you could give someone immunity even if they don't want it.

It is also easier on you. Less anger in the moment, less regret in the short to medium term and you are practicing being better person and that habitualizes the behavior. Being a good person is usually the best thing for everyone.
