Thoroughly recommend Mastodon (and the Fediverse). If the CEO of your instance turns out to be a ballbag, you just change instance and take your data with you :)

(I feel a little unsettled here because I know it's not actually decentralised. Plus I have to use a VPN as I live in the UK and don't want to verify my age by giving my data to some random US company.)

My trans friend from Massachusetts came to visit me here in England for a few days.
