1/ Weak magnetic field effects have been reported across biology for decades, but the mechanisms are still debated. One possibility is that certain cellular reactions respond to magnetic fields through quantum-level spin dynamics.

🌀 Throwback Thursday, anyone?

Say hello to some of the leaders of the quantum biology ecosystem!
November 14, 2025 at 12:25 AM
For over 50 years, research has shown that weak magnetic fields influence physiology across organisms and cell types, with effects consistent with electron spin–dependent chemical reactions.

Let's start paying attention to quantum biology.

Have you ever considered that your health could be quantum?

Studies have shown that weak magnetic fields can alter biological activity across a wide range of organisms and cell types.

It’s hypothesized that these effects arise from quantum phenomena — like electron spin interactions inside cells.

1/ The first Quantum Biology Hackathon wrapped last weekend and it was amazing!

29 contributors came together from across disciplines to develop 6 different projects exploring how quantum effects might influence living systems. Long live quantum bio! 🧬

🧬 This week’s protein spotlight: Photolyase. This light-powered enzyme repairs DNA damage caused by sunlight. It uses blue light to flip broken DNA bonds back into place and it may even respond to Earth’s magnetic field.

Could quantum physics be part of how it works?👇

A number of folks from across the Quantum Biology ecosystem—DAO, Institute, and collaborators—are all in LA this week.

Outside of work: lunch, an escape room, and some time to catch up in person.

1/ What if we could build a scientific field from the ground up and make openness the default?

That is what is happening in quantum biology. It is a growing field exploring how quantum effects like electron spin and entanglement shape living systems.

🚀 The Quantum Biology Hackathon has begun!

For the next few days, researchers, engineers, technologists, & more are exploring how quantum physics might intersect biology.

Co-hosted by @quantumbioorg.bsky.social & Haus der Kulturen der Welt, with @claricedaiello.bsky.social helping lead in Berlin.

1/ This is what it looks like to search for quantum phenomena in biology.

At the @quantumbioorg.bsky.social, researchers are exploring how magnetic fields affect proteins and building custom instruments to find out.

Science doesn't stand still. Our understanding of the world has shifted with every new tool, every unexpected result, every question we didn’t know how to ask until someone tried.

There’s still so much to explore. So much we don’t yet see.

Let’s keep discovering — together.

@quantumbioorg.bsky.social has developed a new graphical user interface (GUI), built with support from AI, to streamline operations for the bacterioscope— their platform for screening magnetosensitivity in bacterial plates.
