Today marks 2 years that the Palestinian people have endured #genocide waged by the Israeli military. As #Quaker values uphold the dignity of every life, we mourn over 1,200 Israelis killed by Hamas at the beginning of this conflict and over 67,000 Palestinians killed since.

Today marks 80 years since the Charter of the United Nations was signed. On 26 June 1945, 50 original Member States of the #UN signed the Charter into effect after convening in San Francisco to determine the course of the new international organization.

Today we commemorate the 75th anniversary of the #KoreanWar, which began on 25 June 1950. Though the armed conflict of the Korean War ended in 1953 with an armistice dividing the peninsula, no peace treaty has been reached amongst the parties to the war.

Quakers have a long history of seeking peace and nonviolent solutions. The #Quaker commitment to dialogue and diplomacy led to the establishment of Quaker UN offices at the inception of the United Nations. Since then we’ve partnered with the UN to uphold the dignity all so that peace can flourish.

Today, 19 June, marks the commemoration of #Juneteenth in the United States. The occasion marks the date in 1865 when the Emancipation Proclamation was finally enforced in the US state of Texas, over 2 years after its initial issuance by Abraham Lincoln.
