Your timing is excellent - I have essays coming out this winter in New Edge Sword & Sorcery about Joanna Russ’s Alyx stories as S&S and on rediscovering Pat Robinson’s Thula the Maid stories. Planning on pitching pieces on J.F. Rivkin’s Silverglass and more soon!

It’s pretty common. Most anthologies that I’ve been in include a story by the editor, if they are also a writer, sometimes under a pseudonym. Rationales can vary from just having something on hand to not getting enough submissions that work to a story failing to turn up, deadlines, etc.
