Stay tuned! We’ll be launching our end-of-year fundraiser this week and we hope you enjoy what we have prepared to share with you 🤗 if you’ve already donated and you’re a member, you can still take part by sharing our posts on social media & with your regional and project-based #Python communities!

Sending a HUGE thank you to @amethyst.cat, @offby1.net,
@glyph.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy, @yhg1s.bsky.social, and
Chris Petrilli, the individuals behind the matching campaign. You have the PSF’s deep gratitude for enabling, catalyzing, and inspiring the #Python community to come together 💝💝💝

Our community really showed up, and a handful of you went *even further*, spontaneously organizing a matching campaign! The campaign added fuel to the energized moment. Over just a few days, they were able to raise in total the amazing sum of $34K. That’s what community is all about.

Read the full post to see how the PSF is tackling these challenges and how you can help power Python’s future. If you’ve already donated, help us spread the word: share this story, boost our fundraiser posts, and tell the world your #Python story!

Even still, we’re raising the flag early: the PSF has only ~6 months of runway and needs your support to sustain essential #Python & #PyPI infrastructure, #PyConUS, and, hopefully, to reopen our Grants Program.

When we shared last week that we withdrew from a U.S. government grant due to conflicts with our mission, the community showed incredible support. 1400+ donors and 270+ new members raised $135K+ in solidarity– thank you!! We've also had 3 new companies apply for sponsorship 🤯🥰

In short: our costs have gone up, our assets and revenue have gone down, and demand for the PSF’s work continues to grow. Meanwhile, Python usage is surging (which is great!), but corporate investment in the language and community hasn’t kept pace.

Over the past year+, we’ve shared updates on things like the Grants Program pause, PyCon US financial transparency, our NSF grant withdrawal, and the “Open Infrastructure is Not Free” statement. This new post pulls those threads together into one clear overview.

Finally, we want to share that everyone at the PSF is full of hope, courage, & strength- because of each & every one of you in the #Python community. We’ve continued to hear from you across a multitude of platforms with messages of support & encouragement– each of which we truly treasure 🥹

We are counting all of these donations and new members as the prequel to our end-of-year fundraiser 📈 Stay tuned for more information on the fundraiser– and if you’ve already donated, you can still support us through the end of 2025 by sharing your #Python stories and boosting our posts!

If you’re interested in donating or becoming a member and would like to *double* your contribution, make sure you jump on the matching campaign generously organized by Glyph and others. It ends tomorrow (Nov 4th), so don’t wait! mastodon.social/@glyph/11545...
