Both images belong to the Tolkien Estate, but the Goblin cave drawings seemed to be inspired by actual cave drawings. Here's an interesting find about the book where similar drawings came from; a book that Tolkien once had. www.tolkienguide.com/modules/newb...

Congratulations for finally getting your copy! It will take a while until mine arrives, but I can't wait to read all the contributions. So many interesting topics from this one.

I spent 5 years studying there (2003 - 2008). I still remember the regular book bazaars, easy access to art and music performances, the history. Also, Yogyakarta palace revived the Yogyakarta Royal Orchestra in 2021 and my friend there always makes me jealous whenever she watches their performance.

Thank you! I rarely hang out on social media but I love making posts like these on Bluesky, although I know a thread is often not that satisfying. But I definitely will share more!

I really would love to share more about each of these court dances (there are more of them)! Each has its own storyline or theme, with very specific rules for each piece of dress, prop, and gesture, and most were inspired by tales in old manuscripts and chronicles or adapted from epics.
