Strange Victory is a bit of a response to Marc Bloch’s Strange Defeat. Bloch was a French historian who lived through the fall. He was executed by the Germans for being a member of the Resistance. So he wrote the book between 40 and 44 when he was killed. Both books are worth reading.

Holland’s Battle of Britain gives you as good or better an understanding of the fall of France as any of five books I’ve read dedicated to the subject. If you’re interested in France 40, it’s a real find.

I could not have done it. Good for you for facing it. I could not finish "The Kindly Ones," either.
