They painted and/or chemically treated their armor to protect it from the elements and make it look pretty ... (Or lacquered it like Japan's samurai armor was)

Cause the vast majority of stuff in museums is from the private collections of rich people who scrubbed all the paint and color treating off.

The skirt I can understand IF it is armored
But please ... even when they give us decently realistic looking armor it has a cape that gets in the way of stuff and clips with tails
It'd be less of an issue if there where actual cape bones in the rig ... but alas there are not
And if they're going to-

Think the most recent example of mostly realistic plate armor that doesn't draw from horrible shit is the historia fending set

But it has basically no groin armoring, the helm has a crest on it that would get catch a strike rather than deflect it, and is bare metal

And annoyingly has a cape
