Which is part of why we're at a place where automated playlists prioritise vibes over history. When actually (most of) the best music does, or is at least made with an awareness of, the opposite.

But the track he chose had a really prominent sample in it, so I raised my hand to point this out and ask if that sort of connection was something his software could do, or if they were working on. Absolute crickets. Wasn't aware, had no idea that was a thing, no interest in it at all.

That said, something like this feels like it's been a long time coming. About 25 years ago I was at a music/tech conference and someone was demonstrating a music recommendation algorithm (the sort of thing that became Pandora) ...
