hey so what if we constructed a p2p overlay on top of atproto to pool downloads of recent-ish versions of repos between organizstions trying to backfill data?
Like, basically just bittorrent but we track individual mst blocks by repo/cid so you can get partial trees.

atproto defines that the PDS is the canonical source of data.
you can make an app that *interoperates with* atproto by writing to a user's PDS in parallel with writing to your database.
but you make an *atproto app* by making the client write to the PDS and listening to the relay for the records.

but it does something entirely different (frees the object early, causing a crash during GC)
