It’s not clear how these residues change the virus’ capabilities yet, although it may be conformational changes needed for viral replication.
It has *something* to do with how the virus binds host ANP32 protein, which is vital to copy DNA/RNA. Human ANP32 binding is temp-sensitive, chicken isn’t.

For the first time, I have almost exact measurements for how long one set of watermarbled nails takes to do: almost the first episode of the PBS Revolutionary War documentary, plus one small digression for J to be indignantly wrong about the pronunciation of the HMS Gaspee. (He’s from Rhode Island.)
