Here’s a great story about the Chicago Nighthawk Project and the birds people have come to think of as their neighborhood birds:

Welp! Spring is here.
Green winged teal
Swainson thrush
Yellow rumped warblers
Tree swallows tweeting high up in the cottonwoods. Don’t know why I’m surprised when they come back every spring.
My first bumblebee, cranefly and moths of the year, a treat for the swallows.
Scaups
Ruddy ducks

A bit of backyard birding here in Portland where we don’t often get snow. The juncos leave pretty little animal tracks.

What a wonderful take on a great eared nightjar! Now I wish all birds’ ears were this visible. ❤️❤️

I would like to introduce my friend, Wendy! A wonderful writer of horror fiction and a great person to take to concerts! She can cut a rug!
Here's the cover of my upcoming horror novel GIRL IN THE CREEK, about a true crime writer's discovery of a dead body who refuses to stay dead.
Twin Peaks meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers, coming June 2024 from Tor Nightfire!

I saw Common Pauraques in Costa Rica last year. At night, I saw them flash their wings in a mating display. Like nighthawks they call loudly to each other from their territories over and over. During the day, I searched for nests with no luck. I’ll have to content myself with my imagination.
