Detroit's Pavan Kanekal & Oregon's J.J. Gregg teamed up for an evening of tabla & sitar duets at @aadl.org in October.

"Othello" goes West in Brevity & PTD Productions' unique take on Shakespeare's tragedy. We reviewed this shortened version of the classic, which is set in the Old West of San Francisco and Santa Catalina Island. It runs Nov. 14-22 at Riverside Arts Center in Ypsilanti.

The collective's first concert was 50 years ago this month: McCoy Tyner at the Power Center on November 2, 1975. Eclipse Jazz went on to produce more than 150 concerts over the next 20 years.

Eclipse Jazz was a student organization at the University of Michigan that brought legends of the genre to town, from Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis to Charles Mingus and Max Roach.
