Very successful cave week with a lot of newly discovered an mapped cave meters!
August 25, 2025 at 8:55 AM
Just arriving at Sägistal for an exciting week of cave research.
August 16, 2025 at 10:00 AM
In a recent study I investigated how #recurrence_plot based methods evolved over time, indicated milestone papers and classes of studied subjects, journal ranking, and citation performance. It was a lot of fun to analyse the bibliographic database! link.springer.com/chapter/10.1...

The catalog is available at ar.pik-potsdam.de
We provide the data, examples scripts for downloading, and a lot of explanations.

In our 2022 study, we introduced the inter-spike spectrum—a new analogue to the power spectrum using #recurrence_plot analysis. By sparsely decomposing the τ-recurrence rate into Dirac combs, we revealed dominant periodicities and transitions in complex systems. doi.org/10.3390/e241...

You can find such statements in most journals and across almost all publishers. You would think that the whole discussion about the reproducibility of studies had never taken place.

It’s 2024, almost 2025—why are we still seeing sentences like "Data will be made available on request" in peer-reviewed scientific papers? This is no longer acceptable. Either share the data and code openly or provide a valid reason why this is not possible (e.g., privacy concerns).

This week, after quite some time, I gave a lecture again on 'Caves as Scientific Archives' in the Earth System Science program at the @geowpotsdam.bsky.social @[email protected]. An entertaining experience for the students, just in time for Christmas.
