the arch repo (pacman ig) vs aur divide is based on if software is maintained by trusted ppl (main arch repo) whereas the aur is the arch *user* repo and so anyone can maintain a package with way less quality control

also it kinda sucks but systemd has been the "default" init system for ages to the point where some software expects that sort of environment and doesnt work/ requires a lot of tweaking if you use anything else (like openrc or runit)
(systemd doesnt suck but its unfortunate its kinda got a monopoly)

i dont rlly understand initramfs its like got to do with how ur computer works when booting up, and finally your init system is responsible for autostarting apps and making sure stuff like your internet turns on when you log in. i think it does more stuff, but i havent fucked with them much

the main one you would've interacted with ig is the package manager, swapping between package managers means you need to tell your OS how its supposed to install software again, and ideally make sure all your software is installed the new way or things might break

theres a lot of really funky low level stuff that can change between distros, but part of linux is also being really modular to the point you could turn any distro into another with enough effort. imo the main limitations are ur init system (usually systemd), your initramfs, and the package manager
