The 1st album I played was Tea for the Tillerman² by Yusuf/Cat Stevens. I didn't realize until I played it that it's not the 1970 original. I didn't pay too close attention to the cover, apparently. The 2020 re-recording features new, more ornate arrangements, slower tempos, longer running time.

I also bought my first 3 records. I'd like to tell you about my nascent (and growing) record collection. I hope somebody will enjoy reading about it. Shout out to Rasputin in Pleasant Hill, where I purchased the records and the player.

I just bought a record player. I'd never had vinyl until now. I used to have 100s of CDs and cassettes, and later, 1000s of digital albums. I lost my collection by attrition. For years, I didn't have the means to play physical media. I wanted to have the experience of physically owning music again.

Recently, music has come back into my life. It used to be the thing I loved most. My drinking took that from me. I stopped collecting music, going to shows, seeking out new (to me) artists and sounds. With 19+ months sobriety, I am free to enjoy music like I had before. And in some new ways.

I also feel compelled to use this platform to express myself in positive ways. Arguing w/ strangers is not great for my mental health. I don't want to pour negativity onto this platform. I'd prefer to talk about things that make me feel good about myself, others, and the world.

I've been quiet since joining b/c I didn't know what I wanted to talk about. I hope I can use Bluesky to engage with social media in a healthier way. For my sanity, I need to minimize my exposure to content that makes me feel misanthropic. Bluesky's moderation policies should help in that regard.

I've been revisiting my all-time favorite bands recently. This week, it's O Yuki Conjugate. This album is new to me.

I need to spend less time on Facebook and Reddit for the sake of my sanity. I'm getting deluged with content from people and groups I don't follow, nor do I want to follow. The unrelenting flow of political content is too much. I'd love to follow friends and engage with the content I want to see.
