Note that this is local police not ICE or CPD attacking these young people. Local police are working overtime to distance themselves from ICE/CPD. Don't buy the hype.
I feel like Los Angeles is a place where people expect ICE to happen because the kidnappings have been happening to my home city for decades, so there’s less media attention to it now. and I want folks to see that in LA, Latine students are organizing major protests & the police are attacking them
LAPD Charges at Hundreds of High School Students in Peaceful Walkout Protest at MDC ~ L.A. TACO
LAPD arrested at least two teenagers protesting ICE raids in Los Angeles yesterday. They were also seen corresponding with ICE agents on Alameda Street during the demonstrations.

BORTAC is the SWAT for Border Patrol. Among other things, they failed to save students in Uvalde.
NEW: since last year, a pair of "highly trained" feds have been involved in an array of incidents attacking crowds with chemical weapons.

We used public records and open source analysis to identify Edgar Vazquez and Michael Sveum, alongside some other members of their tactical team.

“I think it’s a big mistake to look at this as a problem of training… We are seeing the mobilization of a federal police force to carry out a campaign of terror for political purposes.”

Excellent intervention from @kojokoram.bsky.social. Big fan.

Researchers consistently fail to consider the true costs of policing when they evaluate its effectiveness. Traffic stops don't improve safety and have massive social costs.
Recent research found that traffic stops by police in Hillsborough County, Florida reduced voter turnout in 2014, 2016, and 2018 federal elections.
A Police Stop Is Enough to Make Someone Less Likely to Vote
New research shows how the communities that are most heavily policed are pushed away from politics and from having a say in changing policy.

When we dramatically expand police power, we should expect a lot more of this.
We’re going to see a lot more of these cases after the next election.

“An ICE leader has been locked up in the same jail where he’d sent ICE prisoners after he allegedly strangled his girlfriend earlier this month.“
ICE Leader Thrown in His Own Jail Over Strangling Claims
Samuel Saxon, 47, has been handed over to the feds after allegedly brutalizing his girlfriend and lying about it.
