Nice! I’m going to check out some of the other books which I haven’t read yet (sadly I know most of them). I admire revelation space for a lot of stuff – the giant ships, how a society changes from its original goal (eg colony), I just dislike some plot devices (the neutron star, the time stuff)

Seconding Arkady Martine & the Vorkosigan Saga by Bujold (so good). The Expanse (books) are terrific and have a great tv adaptation of the first 6 books. Banks ofc.
I did quite enjoy a lot about revelation space (series), though I have some gripes with it it is a really unique & interesting take.

I am wondering what they are doing with the economy. My 2 contestants are also „giant antenna to spread the message“ or maybe „2nd part of wormhole“ though admittedly that one needs knowledge not transmitted with the virus. Still who knows how fast you can develop stuff with a hive mind.

interesting thread, tbh I do think they mentioned the hospital being partially full / releasing Zosia earlier depending on their needs for hospital beds if there are more severe cases, so I think they still are treating a lot of patients / bodies

I just travelled to a con in another country via train & then some bus travel from the hotel, and I’m sorry but if I had had to figure out where to go and how to buy tickets without the computer I would have gone mad. Also the train delay which was only mildly annoying knowing the next connection

iirc they are in that a bunch of stuff diverged around the event horizon, e.g. wrt time, but it’s been a while since I took GR.

Yesss it’s so great! Also I think they really managed a quite good ending (not perfect, but what is) tying the whole thing together beautifully, which I was pretty worried about.

Yes, many things are social constructs. And while you can say that basically everything is because we agree on some meaning for words, some things (like beer) are also e.g. physical things I can interact with by myself, while some things (like money) don’t work without social interaction at all.
